Road to CALM – Your Path from SAP Solution Manager to SAP Cloud ALM
The switch from SAP Solution Manager (SolMan) to SAP Cloud ALM (CALM) is more than just a technical move – it is a strategic step toward future-proof application lifecycle management. Since SolMan will no longer be developed after 2027, now is the ideal time to set the course for the coming years.
What Does the Typical Process Look Like?
Assessment & analysis
We start with a structured analysis of your current SolMan usage. Which functions are currently in use? Which processes are mapped in SolMan (e.g., monitoring, change management, test management)? Which on-premises and cloud systems are connected?
Develop a target vision and strategy
Together with you, we define what your future application lifecycle management (ALM) should look like: Which processes and systems should be mapped in CALM? Where are there special requirements? Which SolMan functions are critical and need to be replaced or mapped differently?
Identify gaps
We will review the functional scope of SAP Cloud ALM in comparison to your previous use of SolMan. In doing so, we will analyze which features are available in CALM and where there are gaps. We will plan supplementary solutions specifically to cover all requirements.
Preparation & qualification
We provide your team with targeted training in the use of SAP Cloud ALM and ensure that all technical requirements are met – from authorizations to system connections.
Step-by-step migration
We kick-off the migration with less critical processes, such as monitoring, in order to gain initial experience. We then migrate central processes step by step to SAP Cloud ALM – always taking your specific requirements and dependencies into account. We plan the migration along the three central functional areas of CALM:
- Implementation: e.g., project management, test management, process modeling
- Operations: e.g., system, job, and integration monitoring
- Service: e.g., change management, incident handling, and service requests
Parallel operation & optimization
If necessary, we set up temporary parallel operation of SolMan and CALM to secure the transition and comprehensively test all functions. While you continue to use proven functions in SolMan, we already use CALM for operations, monitoring and service – without any risk to you. We then gradually optimize your processes in CALM and give you access to the advantages of the cloud solution, such as central health monitoring, business process monitoring and real-time KPI dashboards. Once all critical implementation functions (e.g., extensive ChaRM scenarios, complex test automation, or solution documentation) are available in CALM, we prepare for the complete replacement of SolMan.
Shutting down SolMan
Once all relevant processes and systems have been successfully integrated into CALM and tested, we will professionally decommission Solution Manager in accordance with SAP’s recommended migration path.
Important:
The path to CALM also offers an opportunity to optimize processes and modernize your SAP landscape. Use the transition not only to replace “old with new,” but also to streamline and automate your processes and align them for the future.
